HUY [Flemish: Hoie] (Belgium)

Manufacturing town in Liège province, E Belgium, on the Meuse River, approximately 15 mi SW of Liège. Founded in the ninth century a.d., its 19th-century citadel is now used as a military and correctional facility. The ruins of the Gothic abbey of Neufmoustier, founded in the early 12th century by Peter the Hermit, are here.
