IBIZA [Iviza] [ancient: Ebusus] (Spain)

Island in the W Mediterranean Sea, 80 mi off the E coast of Spain. The third-largest of the Balearic Islands, it was inhabited in antiquity by Phoenicians and Carthaginians, and then by Romans. Ibiza City was founded by Carthage. See also Phoenicia, Rome.
