ZUNYI [Tsun-I, Zun-I] (China)

City in N Guizhou province, 75 mi N of Guiyang, China. The seat of a county since the Tang dynasty, it was the scene of a revolt led by Yang Yinglung from 1597 to 1599. In 1935 the Central Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party held a conference here at which Mao Zedong established his authority in the party.
